Junior high begins!

The WeatherPixieGame Giveaway of the Day

Well, my first day in a long while with no kids! Their vacation in July didn't really feel like a vacation for me...because the few days I was alone? I was sick. Then, Buck was on vacation.

This has been heavenly. Almost too quiet...almost.

Cloud started 7th grade today. Last night was orientation, and what a hoot that was. There are 285 kids in the 7th grade this year. Approximately the same amount in 8th grade, and they share the building (if not the same area) with the high school. All the 7th graders, their parent(s) and or siblings...and then? They have you walk through a day's schedule, in ten minute increments, to get a feel for where your classes are, how long it takes, and to meet most of your teachers. The kids have an odd/even day schedule, so they have to remember what day it is, heh. It was a good thing, I now have a vague idea of what her teachers look like, and I needed to go. I went from 30-ish kids in my parochial grade 7, to a public high school. This was quite an eye-opener. Not in a bad way, but to see how this works.

It was sooo insanely hot there...all those bodies, and some stress and...humidity. I can only blame that as to why I forgot my wallet. Fortunately, the school called me this morning...while I was searching for said wallet...to tell me. I got to say 'Thank goodness...' and I got to tell them that the bus drove right by Cloud, which prompted a 'We will fix that!' response. Cool. I was looking for the wallet, to take Cloud to school, of course, and Storm was freaking out that we would not be back to get her on the bus. Yep, we can't go 4 miles round trip, and drop off your sister, and be back in time for your bus. Which comes in an hour. If I could bottle her enthusiasm for school, I'd be all set.

I've read four Harleq@in novels in the last few days; now I want a real book. Dammit, these are supposed to ease those pangs.

My yarn work is going slowly. My hands/wrists have been complaining, and my wrist brace makes it difficult to knit, less so to crochet, but very difficult to use the mouse vigorously. Like to play 'J*wel Quest 2', hehe.
Does anyone play the tournament part of it? I have three names, and sort through them to keep them somewhat balanced. Some days it seems nothing will let me win against a higher ranked person; other days, I just can't lose.

Contemplating volunteering for the school, or working as an alternate for the cafeteria staff. Don't know if I want to commit. I've gotten used to being able to do as I please. Don't get me wrong, a job would be great, but...I think I'm getting picky in my old age. Go figure.

Off to yarn, and maybe a little 'Brain Age' or Jewel Quest. Or both!
