7:16 p.m. - 2008-01-05 Well, folks, this is a quick entry, thanks to Cardiogirl's memory jogging topic today! She was marveling at how the rich really live, with $2000 sheets and frog-skin covered art pieces. Well, she'll get a kick out the fact that I learned what its like to be really rich, right in her general area. Franklin ring any bells, dear?? I lived with a family, as nanny to their two-year old. Second marriage for both, he had four sons, all older than me. (19, so quite a while ago) This was her only child, and she was then 40-ish - my age now. He is in commercial real estate, all up and down I-75, and probably other things, too. I'll just say I'm sure anyone in Michigan, or northern Ohio and/or Indiana probably has seen the name on the signs. So, its a lovely house, built in the 20's or 30's, Tudor style, very understated...but you know it costs a serious amount of cash, with all property surrounding it. I lived with them for about four or five months, working stretches, then with time off because my job was mostly to watch their daughter. While we were in Aspen. yes, that one I can't think if any really weird excesses, but this was a Jewish family, and they kept Kosher. Which meant they have two sets of dishes, pots and pans, silverware...you name it, its doubled at least. It could be tripled, depending on how much glassware they had, for parve? I think its called. Glass can be used for either milk, or meat without contamination. Most any other material cannot be used for both. So we are talking two complete sets, and the accompanying cabinets. They flew me back and forth between Michigan and Colorado no less than 5 times. We flew coach, but always had seats in front where all the leg room is. The house in Aspen was...amazing. There were 2 suites, like nice master rooms, in the basement. For each of the sons that were married. As well as two other bedrooms, that shared a bath. And the pull out couch in the common area in the basement, which was where you watched the projection screen tv. That you could watch while cooling off from the sauna. You could also get yourself a drink from the bar, on your way to the hot tub outside. Which you could get to easily, in the winter. Because of the heated sidewalk. Which nicely complimented the heated driveway. Yes, it sounds over the top, but none of this was in solid gold, it was all in just really really nice materials. And hell, it wasn't even finished! What used to kill me, was shopping in Aspen. The sheer opulence of the stores was incredible. I paid $30 for a pair of chandelier earrings, just simple bugle beads, and was freaked out by that. I could go on, but it would get even less coherent. Sorry. Anyhow, if you HAVE to know, C-girl, I'll email ya! :) OH and if anyone wonders, yes, I spelled it 'Tood' for a reason! The movie was gory, bloody, creepy, suspenseful, well-acted, and pleasantly sung. Will I ever have the nerve to watch it again? Not sure; for now, unlikely. And sorry for the long wait...its been a hell of a day at sea, sir! Off to finish my butter pecan ice cream.
